Plastic Surgery, combined with a diet and exercise plan, can help jump start a weight-loss program. Some people find that they need some strong motivation in form of positive reinforcement to get them on the path to lose weight. This can be found with liposuction or abdominoplasty. With both of these procedures, the body size reduces in targeted areas which gives positive motivation to individuals. There is some weight loss which is achieved as well. Individuals appreciate their new slimmer look and become inspired to work on losing more weight to achieve their ideal weight goals. At MedSpa, we combine the plastic surgery procedures with a customized exercise and diet plan for each individual desiring to lose weight and keep it off. We, together with you, work as a team to become more healthy and fit.
Liposuction : Also known as lipoplasty, Liposuction slims and reshapes specific areas of the body by removing excess fat deposits, improving your body contours and proportion, and ultimately, enhancing your self-image. Despite good health and a reasonable level of fitness, some people may still have a body with disproportionate contours due to localized fat deposits. These areas may be due to family traits rather than a lack of weight control or fitness. Best candidates are individuals with localized fat deposits on the body with good skin elasticity ; the more elastic the skin, the better liposuction works.
Liposuction surgery can be used to treat stubborn fat pockets in many parts of the body including the thighs, arms, neck, hips, waist, back, inner knee, chest, cheeks, chin, calves, and ankles. In some cases, liposuction is performed alone, in other cases it is used with plastic surgery procedures such as a facelift, breast reduction, or a tummy tuck. There is actual removal of fat cells rather than reduction in size of the cells. It is considered a safe and effective way to remove unsightly bulges from almost any area. Fat deposits that don’t respond to exercise and diet regimes are ideal targets for liposuction. The most popular areas for women are the abdomens, inner and outer thighs, hips, waist, upper back, buttocks and knees. Liposuction can even be used as a way of reducing heavy breasts in some women. Patients who are very overweight may have to undergo these procedures in stages. In the weight-loss program, these techniques may be used to reduce localized fat deposits of the:
- Hips and buttocks
- Abdomen and waist
Types of Liposuction:
Tumescent Liposuction, one of the most popular forms of cosmetic surgery. The tumescent or super-wet technique requires an infusion of saline solution with adrenaline and possibly anesthetic prior to removal of excess fat Then, a small hollow tube, like a metal straw, which is attached to a vacuum, is then inserted through a small incision into the fat layer beneath the skin. It's moved around to break up the fat, which is then sucked out of the body. The incision is approximately 1 centimeter, and is made in an area of the body which is not noticeable (ie – abdomen liposuction would have the incision in the belly button)
Laser LiposuctionLaser assisted liposuction takes advantage of the power and technology associated with medical laser beams to liquefy the fat which is then sucked out of the area.
Ultrasound LiposuctionUltrasound assisted liposuction uses a special cannula that vibrates very rapidly and gives off ultrasound energy. As the cannula passes through the fat cells, that energy liquefies the fat cells, which are then suctioned out. The ultrasound can be administered either above the skin (with a special emitter) or below the surface of the skin (with an ultrasound cannula).
Liposuction surgery is not a treatment for obesity and is not a replacement for regular exercise and good eating habits. People with stubborn areas of fat and who exercise regularly are the best candidates for this procedure. Liposuction slims and reshapes specific areas of the body by removing excess fat deposits, improving your body contours and proportion, and ultimately enhancing your self-image
Abdominoplasty : Abdominoplasty ,also known as a Tummy Tuck removes excess fat and skin, and restores weakened or separated muscles creating an abdominal profile that is smoother and firmer. A flat and well-toned abdomen is something many of us strive for through exercise and weight control. Sometimes these methods cannot achieve our goals. Even individuals of otherwise normal body weight and proportion can develop an abdomen that protrudes or is loose and sagging. The most common causes of this include: Pregnancy, Aging, Significant fluctuations in weight, Heredity, or Prior surgery.
Although the results of an abdominoplasty procedure are technically permanent, the positive outcome can be greatly diminished by significant fluctuations in your weight. For this reason, individuals who are planning substantial weight loss or women who may be considering future pregnancies may be advised to postpone abdominoplasty surgery.
