Facelift Surgery: Get a Beautiful, Younger Looking Face!

facelift surgery in India

Many people despise the fact that wrinkles and sagging skin are effects of ageing. Facelift surgery, or rhytidectomy, is a cosmetic surgical procedure done to give a more youthful appearance to the face. This procedure removes excess facial skin and tightens the loose skin around the jaw line. It removes deep creases around the mouth and nose. The procedure may also be combined with other cosmetic procedures to enhance the forehead, brows, eyelids, and brows.

Facelift Surgery: Why is it Done?

When people get older, their skin starts to lose its elasticity. The fat deposits decrease in some areas of the face.

Facelift surgery removes sagging skin, reduces the extra fat in the neck, lifts the corners of the mouth and reduces the creases between the cheeks and the lips.

It gives a person a youthful appearance that lasts approximately ten years. A facelift is not a treatment for irregularities in skin colour, sun damage, or creases around the nose and upper lip.

What to Expect?

First, you will have to book an appointment with a plastic surgeon. The plastic surgeon then will review your history. The surgeon will also take photos of your face and close-up photos of some features. He or she will also examine the shape of your face, bone structure, quality of your skin and bone structure to determine the best options for face-lift surgery.

He or she will look at various factors like blood pressure, drug use, allergies, scarring, skin condition, medications, and blood clotting.

People who don’t have any serious medical problems and are in good mental and physical health can opt for a facelift.

Patients with diabetes and high blood pressure are generally not recommended to go for facelift surgery. Cigarette smoking and use of tobacco also increase the risk of complications post surgery. Before getting the surgery done, you will have to stop smoking and using nicotine products.

Also, before getting the surgery done, you should have realistic expectations and remember that the surgery will not stop the ageing process completely. The results of facelift last long and good skin elasticity and bone structure give the best results.

You should discuss any medications you are taking, your expectations, risks and potential complications that may develop and what the surgery will involve.

Before the Procedure

Sedation and local anaesthesia are used to do a facelift. In some cases, general anaesthesia is recommended.

During the Procedure

During the facelift surgical procedure, the surgeon makes an incision in front of the ear, extending up into the hairline and behind the ear into the hair-bearing scalp.

Then the surgeon lifts the skin off the underlying muscle and pulls the skin in an upward and posterior direction to remove the excess skin.

A small incision may be made under the chin to tighten the skin and deeper tissue of the neck.

Sutures and skin staples are used to close the wound. The surgeon places a drain under the skin behind the ear for one day to remove any excess blood and fluids. Then bandages are applied.

After the Procedure

Facelift surgery procedure usually takes 2 to 5 hours, and the patient can go home on the same day after surgery.

After rhytidectomy, you may experience swelling, bruising, numbness, mild pain and drainage from the incisions.

If you experience severe pain in neck or face, shortness of breath, chest pain or irregular heartbeats, you must consult your doctor immediately.

After the surgery, you will be asked to rest with your head elevated for a few days. You will also have to apply cool packs to reduce swelling. Don’t forget to take pain medication on time as recommended by the doctor.

Complications of Facelift Surgery

Some of the risks and complications of facelift surgery include:

  • Loss of hair around the incision site

  • Bleeding
